Lot 27: Fraktur by: Donna Spangler
Inspired by the 250th Anniversary of American independence and the Pennsylvania German art form known as “fraktur”, artist Donna Spangler has created a spectacular piece of art in tribute to those Americans who took up arms and left their homes to secure freedom for us all. The image in the fraktur is made up of three key elements. The Eagle was inspired by the 18th century hand drawn image by an anonymous artist around Berk County Pennsylvania. In his talons is a Jacob Dickert rifle. In addition to being a top gunsmith in Lancaster County Pennsylvania, he also organized independent gunmakers to provide guns to the armies of the new United States. The eagle slings a Lancaster screw tip powder horn and leather bag to finish out his armament. Below this stunning image, Donna has hand-lettered the motto “Noble truth must be victorious Freedom may not be defeated”. This fraktur comes framed and ready to take its place on your wall.
