Lot 26: Hunting Pouch by: Shelly Gier & Kerry Masarik
This pouch begins—and rightly so—with the work of Kerry Masarik of Horn and Fiber. The handwoven strap and front panel immediately command attention, with a bold green and natural zigzag pattern in wool and Swedish linen that feels both historic and alive. The design recalls flame embroidery, with a rhythmic movement and precision that can’t be replicated by machine—clear evidence of a practiced, confident hand. It’s not just an accent here—it is the heart of the piece.
Shelly Gier of J and S Gier, Artificers built the pouch around that foundation, letting the weaving lead. The bark tanned leather was chosen and shaped to support, not compete—rich, warm, and full of character, with natural markings that add depth without stealing focus. The pieced flap, hand-stitched seams, and understated brass button closure frame the textile beautifully while adding structure and durability. The button itself carries its own story, bearing the maker’s mark of Richard Lanni.
Function matches form throughout. A reinforced bottom gives the pouch strength where it matters most, while an interior pocket and leather welts provide usability without interrupting the clean lines. The leather back grounds the piece, balancing the visual weight of the woven front.
