Lot 19: The Missouri Boys/Gals Set: A Tribute in Craft and Tradition by: Travis Bauer, Tiauna Friend, and Harris Maupin
This finely handcrafted trio—a shooting pouch with woven strap, powder horn, and bag knife—captures the enduring legacy of 18th and 19th-century American craftsmanship, brought to life by the skilled hands of modern Missouri artisans.
The shooting pouch, made by Travis Bauer, is both rugged and refined—a faithful interpretation of the kind carried by trappers, militiamen, and long hunters. Its front panel was painted by Tiauna Friend in the Pennsylvania German folk style of fraktur.
Supporting the pouch is a handwoven strap by CJ Wilde, a veteran Missouri weaver. The strap blends durability with subtle beauty, echoing traditional fiber work that would have been essential to frontier life—strong, functional, and made to last.
Draped atop the pouch is a brilliant powder horn, a striking recreation of a mid-1800s Tansel horn, handcrafted by Harris Maupin.
The final piece of the set is a bone-handled bag knife, also crafted by Travis Bauer. With its clean profile and forged blade, it embodies the simple elegance and reliability prized by early frontiersmen, built for daily use, yet timeless in form.
Together, these items form a living homage to the frontier spirit. Made entirely in Missouri, they represent not only the tools of survival but the enduring beauty of craftsmanship, shaped by tradition, heritage, and pride in their Missouri and American roots.
